HACKENSACK, NJ — Congressman Josh Gottheimer, a Democrat running for Governor, announced his “Nickel and Dimed Agenda” to cut back on costs that are nickel and diming hardworking Jersey families and businesses. Recently, Gottheimer announced his plan to bring back paper bags as a more affordable bag option in Jersey grocery stores. Now, he’s tackling annual fees for small businesses.
Too often, small businesses are burdened by hidden costs and bureaucratic hurdles. Right now, New Jersey charges small businesses $75 just to file an annual report. Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania, that same fee is just $7; in New York, it’s even lower. It’s time for New Jersey to get in line with our neighbors and stop making it harder for small businesses to survive and grow.
“Small businesses are everything to Jersey,” said Gottheimer. “My dad ran a small business, and I worked there growing up—it’s where I learned about the Jersey Values that guide me to this day. If we want more entrepreneurs to come to Jersey and do business here, we’ve got to stop burying them in unnecessary fees and red tape. We can’t keep nickel and diming folks and expect them to keep their families and their businesses here. As Governor, I’ll slash these outrageous fees and align New Jersey with our neighboring states. I’ll be laser-focused on lowering taxes and costs and clearing the way for our small businesses to succeed.”
