Launches Tour at Fair Lawn Food Pantry in Bergen County

Fair Lawn, NJ — This week, Josh Gottheimer kicked off his “Stop The Chaos Tour,” where he will meet with hardworking Jersey families, small businesses, and communities across New Jersey who have been hit hard by Trump’s chaos and the far-right’s reckless cuts. His first stop on the tour was at Fair Lawn Food Pantry in Bergen County.

“I’m all for efficiencies and making government smarter, but I’m not for chaos and policies that will hurt Jersey families and seniors,” said Congressman Gottheimer. “Folks are already struggling with high costs of food and can’t afford to put a healthy meal on their dinner table. That’s cruel, and does not live up to our Jersey Values.”

As part of their budget process, Trump and his extreme-right allies will be forced to cut WIC and SNAP benefits — an unconscionable move that would hurt Jersey families and seniors who are just trying to put food on the table. SNAP offers food benefits that help low-income families supplement their grocery budgets, while WIC supports low-income women, infants, and children by providing access to healthy food, nutrition education, and more.

Trump’s pause on federal loans and grants is making it hard for food banks to rely on federal funding as a source of income. Already, programs have been suspended around the country as organizations struggle with funding uncertainty. In the meantime, SNAP and WIC cuts will force families and seniors to rely on food pantries to get by.  

During the “Stop The Chaos Tour,” Gottheimer will outline his plan to address these cuts and reckless policies while ensuring Jersey families get the support they deserve.

In Congress, Josh Gottheimer has been a champion for food assistance programs. He introduced the Bipartisan SNAP Nutrition Security Act of 2023 to improve access to nutritious foods, worked to boost SNAP funding, and helped expand federal school meal programs. He’s also advanced legislation to make it easier for eligible children to receive free school meals. As Governor, Josh will fight to expand free breakfast and lunch and make sure no person, family, child, or senior goes hungry.
